About The Essential Baker


Regular Columnist for British Baker Magazine

He started his baking career in 1987 whilst working and studying as a baker in Yorkshire, winning the prestigious baking industry award, Student Baker of the Year in 1995.

His passion for baking, versatility, creativity and innovation have always been at the forefront of his goals.

Whilst working as Divisional Bakery Manager for blue chip companies he gained extensive knowledge of new product development and process methods within the baking and pizza industry.

His project work has taken him to India, Italy, America, Germany, France, Belgium, Norway, Finland and Bangladesh, giving him the invaluable understanding of the origins and regionality in baking.

His passion for baking was rewarded when he won the Gold Q Award in 2000.

As a good communicator he has worked with many other gifted craftsmen and professionals throughout the world such as Thierry Doumonchel, Peter Rheinhart and Bluebird bakery.

He has worked for a major retailer for over 2 years in a fast moving, highly influential area of new product development, managing an extensive supplier base, landing 1000’s of products, many first to market.

He has run bread workshops catering for a wide range of abilities and exhibited at the BBC Good Food Show demonstrating craft baking techniques.

Now writing articles about ethnic breads for magazines such as British baker and Artisan.
